Back in 2019 and 2020 – while I was still living in Penang – I was asked to speak at the morning worship service at Covenant Grace Church where I attended regularly (and still retain my membership).
This was my very first time speaking at a worship service, so I borrowed a book to aid my preparation. The book is called Practical Religion by J.C. Ryle, a prominent 19th-century Anglican preacher in the UK. My messages are based on one of Ryle’s messages contained in this book.
Since Ryle addressed his original message to a 19th-century British audience, I have taken liberties to use examples and illustrations from the present-day in hopes of making the message relevant to us all.
私がペナン島に住んでいた2019年から2020年にかけて、当時通っていた（今でも籍を置いている）改革派教会Covenant Grace Churchの礼拝でメッセージを語ってほしい旨打診を受けました
礼拝でメッセージを語るのは初めてだったので、参考書として一冊の本を借りました 19世紀のイギリス国教会で説教者として活躍したJ.C.ライルのPractical Religion（『実践的信仰』）です
私が語らせて頂いたメッセージは、この本に収められたメッセージのひとつをベースとしています 元々のメッセージはライルが生きた当時のイギリス人を対象としていますので、具体例などは現代のもの等に差し替えています
I learned a very important lesson while preparing and delivering these messages: That the speaker himself must first be convicted and challenged by God’s Word and the message prepared.
I received great blessings through this whole process. I hope these messages will awaken and bless you as we eagerly await and celebrate the coming of Jesus Christ.

これらのメッセージを準備しつつ、また語りつつ「説教壇に立つ者は、まず自らが神の御言葉（聖書）によって、また語ろうとしているメッセージによって罪を指摘され、自らを吟味されなければならない」という貴重な教訓を学ばせて頂きました たくさんの恵みを頂いた体験でした
イエス・キリストのご降誕を待ち望みそして祝うこの季節、神様がこれらのメッセージを通して皆さんの心と魂に恵みをもたらして下さることを願っています
